This workshop will provide an intensive course of study on environmental protection law in Western Australia.

Leading the discussion will be Assoc/Prof Alex Gardner and Ms Sharon Mascher, while leading specialists in the environmental law industry will also contribute. The course will be valuable for lawyers and other professionals working with environmental protection laws in the business and public sectors, including NGOs.

The three-day workshop will give a thorough insight into the State and Commonwealth laws for environmental protection in Western Australia. It will review the regulation of pollution and environmental harm under The Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA), and environmental impact assessment under that Act and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth), as well as applicable common law. CPD points allocation: to be advised.

The workshop will be held over six half-day sessions covering:

  • Institutional framework
  • Policy instruments and information tools
  • Regulatory and other controls
  • Environmental impact assessment
  • Criminal liabilities
  • Civil liabilities

Each session includes a lecture outlining the principles of law and a workshop discussion of legal issues and problems. The workshop is limited to 30 people.

Postgraduate students can also participate.

Morning sessions: 8:45am to 12:30pm
Afternoon sessions: 1:30pm to 5:15pm
