Elizabeth Shaw - Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations 2008

It has been announced that Elizabeth Shaw, UWA law student and former Blackstone Student Society President (2006) is the Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations 2008. The Youth Representative advocates for Australian youth and takes their concerns to the UN in New York. This involves travelling to each Australian state and territory to meet with young people, politicians, youth organisations and various levels of government to identify relevant issues.

In late August, Beth will head to Europe for meetings of the European Youth Representatives. From September to December she will be working at the UN in New York as a fully accredited member of the Australian delegation to the UN. In this role Beth will address the General Assembly on behalf of Australia and work with the Third Commitee of the General Assembly (Social, Humanitarian, Cultural).

For more of an idea of the role Beth will play, visit the website of the former Youth Representative, Ben Groom. Once Beth has settled in to her new role she will take over the website. Keep an eye out for her in the news and on Sunrise!
