How do the quotas work?

Quotas apply to internet access, printing and disk storage. The account monitor pop-up window in the labs will tell you how much quota you have.

Internet quota usage is calculated "live" as you visit websites. Monitor your usage to ensure you don't inadvertently use up your quota on large downloads, and not have sufficient quota for your coursework.

Print quota usage is calculated as soon as you use the print button. Even if you cancel the document, it may be counted against your quota, and you will not be reimbursed, so print only when necessary. Quota is allocated for the printing of assignments only. If you need to print lecture notes or other material, contact your lecturer.

Disk quota usage is calculated at midnight. If you go over your quota, you can still store files but you need to apply for extra quota for your coursework storage, or delete unnecessary material.

  • You can find out how much of your quota is left by visiting the account update page.

I can't print. What's going on?

If you are trying to print a PDF document from the web, try downloading it first. Right click on the link and Save link as. Once saved to your H: drive, open and print it.

If you are trying to print a normal document, then check your print quota. In the labs, use the account monitor.

How do I get more print quota?

You can purchase more print quota at the helpdesk during office hours. This is charged at 11 cents a page from credit on your campus card (minimum $10). Your print quota should be sufficient to print course-related materials (not lecture notes). If you find this is not the case, see your lecturer. We do not encourage the printing of course notes from the internet.
